Decertify SEIU 721

Volume 4 / Issue 3

Mission Statement

To provide quality service to the REAP members with integrity and respect, understanding the member is the priority.

The current MOU between the County of Riverside and SEIU expires on November 30, 2016. After 5 long years, the time we’ve all waited for is finally here! Now is the time to not only negotiate a new contract, but to DECERTIFY SEIU 721 and negotiate with a new association, your association – The Regional Employees Association of Professionals and we are ready to go to work for all employees currently represented by SEIU in Riverside County.

The Employees Relations Resolution outlines the requirements of all labor organizations representing employees in Riverside County. One of the requirements of the ERR is to gather signatures during the decertification process and the time frame in which to collect those signatures. All signatures must be wet, so no faxed, scanned, or emailed signatures can be accepted. We are preparing a petition to be used during the decertification so as soon as the proof of our petition is final, it will be posted on our website. Until then, please encourage any SEIU represented employee to register on our website or they can contact us at reap4us.com.

In the early days of 2016, Assemblywoman Shannon Grove, (R) Bakersfield, submitted Assembly Bills 2753 and 2754. AB 2753 will force ALL unions representing public employees, to open their books. Be transparent and provide to the employees, itemization of how the dues dollars are spent (REAP has done this since inception). If employees don’t feel their labor organization has their best interest at heart, they can be fired thanks to the language in AB 2754. Both of these Bills are non-partisan and should be approved by both the Senate and Assembly. If there is hesitation from any member, in either the Assembly or the Senate, YOU’LL KNOW WHO IS RECEIVING FINACIAL SUPPORT WITH YOUR DUES DOLLARS. ANY PUBLIC UNION MEMBER IN CALIFORNIA SHOULD SIGN THE PETITION. YOU HAVE EVERYTHING TO GAIN AND NOTHING TO LOSE!

Have you heard the latest from the Board of Supervisors? Apparently during this week’s Board of Supervisors meeting, the topic of the Atrium Café, which is located in the lobby of the CAC Building, was the center of discussion. It seems that the majority of the members believe that the Atrium Café should alter their menu to provide more health conscience choices. But wait…It gets better…

The Board of Supervisors would also like county customers to swipe their county ID card so the soup d’jour can be tracked. With so many other things to be worrying about (e.g. FY16/17 Budget, employee furloughs, possible layoffs), is tracking what County Employees eat, during the weekly Board of Supervisor meeting really the best use of time? Check out Kevin Jefferies blog for all the details…

Election Fever…Regardless of your political views, or lack of, admittedly, this is an election year that will certainly go down in history as one of the strangest yet…

On the Democratic side you have a Democratic Socialist challenging the former Secretary of State, who is being investigated by the FBI for possible state secret improprieties.

The Republican’s don’t fare much better…two first term senators who have never governed, are being challenged by a billionaire real estate mogal, who’s also never governed and has some very unique views. Then there is the 4th candidate…A former Ohio State Senator, a former US House of Representative member (Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee), who sponsored the Welfare Reform Act in 1995, which was hailed as one of President Clinton’s biggest accomplishments, and the current two term Governor of Ohio, who works very well with both sides of the aisle. Decisions…Decisions…

If your views tend to sway more towards the Democratic side, your choices are limited, but there are certainly choices. If you tend to be more conservative in nature, then your choice should be relatively simple…right?
